Local event will be held Thursday from noon- 1 p.m. at the gazebo at the Clark County Public Service Center
Clark County will once again participate in the National Day of Prayer.
The Vancouver-based Clark County Prayer Connect organization will hold an event Thursday (May 1) from noon-1 p.m. in the gazebo located at the Clark County Public Service Center (1300 Franklin Street).
“This year I just felt like we need to get it up and running again,’’ said Clark County Prayer Connect Executive Director Dennis Fuqua. “The National Day of Prayer has an interesting history. The last time our House and Senate voted unanimously to do anything was to establish the first Thursday of May as National Day of Prayer. That happened in 1988.
“There have been many times that Days of Prayer have been called for dating back to before 1776,’’ Fuqua said. “It was done during the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Many of our presidents and leaders have called for a Day of Prayer. It has a long tradition. This is something far beyond us. We are cooperating with this national movement. We are praying for our county and and our country.’’
Fuqua said all are welcome to join the Clark County gathering.
“We estimate we will be one of multiple of thousands of gatherings on that day praying for the nation,’’ he said. “We will gather under the gazebo at the Clark County Courthouse. We will be praying for four specific topics.’’
Fuqua shared that those four topics will be to pray for elected officials in Clark County, students in Clark County, businesses in Clark County and churches in Clark County.
Students from King’s Way Christian School and the Mannahouse will be on hand as well as adults and other members of the Clark County community. They will also provide worship music and lead those gathered with a song in closing.
