This year’s event was held outdoors to accommodate pandemic restrictions and saw great attendance. Families picked up backpacks, visited with representatives from local resource agencies, and munched on free snacks provided by the district’s nutrition services department.

Gabrielle “Gabby” Meador, Woodland Public School’s coordinator for its Family and Community Resource Center, organized this year’s Back to School Bash by lining up donors and volunteers while organizing the myriad of other details required for the event’s ongoing success. “We are so grateful to our community partners who attend the event as well as those who donate funds and supplies for our Back-to-School Bash,” she said. “We received so much support from our communities including all of our wonderful volunteers.”

In addition to free backpacks filled with school supplies for all students, every attendee also had the opportunity to enter a free raffle for door prizes provided by many businesses in and around the Woodland area. The key to the event’s success lies in teamwork, collaboration, and organization. “This year’s event seemed to run very smoothly, especially since we’ve been putting this on for a few years now,” said Meador. “Watching students and families having fun and exploring the various resources on-hand was very exciting!”

In order to achieve its goals, the FCRC relies on the support of local businesses and community organizations. “We couldn’t offer the programs we do without the generous support from our local organizations and community members,” said Meador. “Watching the community rally around helping those among us in need is extremely gratifying.”
