The mural is now on display inside of the school building near the gymnasium and features a design by Aubrey Gale, 7th grade student at JMS
Jemtegaard Middle School (JMS) students created a mural this spring to represent school pride at the middle school. The mural is now on display inside of the school building near the gymnasium and features a design by Aubrey Gale, 7th grade student at JMS.
Student leadership worked with school Principal David Cooke and Associate Principal Tiffany McCormick to form a mural committee with representatives from each grade level. Students worked with Cooke and McCormick to hold a schoolwide mural design contest, seeking designs to represent Husky Pride. From a pool of eight entries, the committee selected a design by JMS student Aubrey Gale. Gale was awarded with a collection of art supplies for submitting the winning entry.

Gale enlisted a small group of her peers to help with creating the mural. Addison Curtis, Rylee Drake, and Gale worked with Art Teacher Dani Allen to paint the mural. The team worked on the project after school each day.
The Washougal Arts and Culture Alliance (WACA) generously provided funding for the materials and paint. WACA fosters a thriving local art scene in Washougal, enhancing a strong sense of community pride. The organization collaborates with artists, teachers, business, community groups and local government to support and promote regional artists, increase opportunities for youth participation in the arts, and to enhance exposure to the arts for Washougal residents and visitors.
Students will work with school leaders to plan additional murals in the future. Projects like these improve school culture and climate by fostering a sense of pride and ownership for students in their school.
