Wreaths Across America to salute veterans at Evergreen Memorial Gardens
The Lewis and Clark Young Marines are teaming up with Wreaths Across America in hopes of honoring all 2,001 veterans who are buried at Evergreen Memorial Gardens
“It’s to remember our veterans by placing a wreath on their graves,” said Sena Rider, the Wreaths Across America coordinator with the Lewis and Clark Young Marines.
There are more than 3,000 sites across America that are participating in the program this year.
The Young Marines are asking for more donations locally to try to cover every veteran at the gardens. As of early this week, the group had sold 572 wreaths.
A wreath costs $15. The ceremony will take place Dec. 18, but the wreaths need to be purchased and ordered earlier. The deadline for buying a wreath is Nov. 30. Also, $5 of the $15 purchase comes back to the Lewis and Clark Young Marines. The mission of Young Marines is to teach children leadership skills.
The Dec. 18 event will honor every branch of the armed forces and feature a flag-folding ceremony and a dove release. A local politician will lay the first wreath. Then the Young Marines will head out to the gardens to decorate the graves.
