Kiddie Academy of Vancouver-Fishers Landing offers free community event for children and their families

VANCOUVER — If you are looking for fun and free activities to do with your children before summer ends, Kiddie Academy of Vancouver-Fishers Landing may just have you covered this weekend.

On Sat., Aug. 24 starting at 10 a.m. Kiddie Academy’s nationwide event, Storytime LIVE!, is coming to Vancouver at the Fisher’s Landing location.

A live story reading by PBS Kids storybook characters Curious George and Pinkalicious will top the event, with a classroom visit, snack time and playtime to follow. The event is open to the public, and has no obligation or cost.

“Research shows that shared book reading is linked to young children’s emergent literacy ability and language development, which affect children’s later success in reading,” said Kiddie Academy President Greg Helwig in a press release. “We believe that Storytime LIVE! gives families the opportunity to spend quality time together while also laying the groundwork for children’s lifelong passion for books.”

The event comes just shy of two weeks after the grand opening of Kiddie Academy’s second location in Clark County, in Salmon Creek.

“There’s a wide variety of childcare out there. We want to be a resource for parents,” said John Swartz, the owner and operator of Kiddie Academy in Salmon Creek, earlier this year.

The company focuses on a goal of integrating education into child care, and exceeding Washington State Early Learning Standards. Since 1981, Kiddie Academy has worked with children from six-weeks-old to 12-years-old.

The Fishers Landing location features classrooms for all ages in the range, community spaces for games and crafts as well as an outdoor play area with a basketball court and soccer field.

Parents interested in bringing their children to the event can sign-up for free at www.kastorytime.com. Games and printout activities inspired by the stories to be read, can also be downloaded for free on the website.
