Over 75 colleges and employers have committed to fairs at nine local high schools
Career and Technical Education (CTE) staff at Evergreen, Vancouver, and Battle Ground school districts have collaborated to offer college and career fairs to secondary students the week of March 18-22.
Over 75 colleges and employers have committed to fairs at nine local high schools, where students may explore educational options, scholarships, and jobs. The fairs are scheduled at specific locations and times throughout the week, primarily during the school day, with time in between to allow the partners to relocate and set up for the next fair.
College and Career Fair Locations:
- Evergreen High School, Henrietta Lacks Health and Bioscience High School, Heritage High School (Evergreen Public Schools)
- Hudson’s Bay High School, Skyview High School, iTech Prep, Van Flex Academy (Vancouver Public Schools)
- Vancouver Public Schools will host a public College & Career Fair at Roosevelt Elementary School on Tue., March 19 from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m.
- Battle Ground High School – Thu., March 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Battle Ground School District)
College and career fairs are not new – they have always been offered as a part of every high school student’s future planning. But the combined coordination between the three districts allows colleges and universities from other parts of the country to travel to this area once, and stay in town for a weeks’ worth of scheduled engagements.
“This is very convenient for our college & business reps that travel to our area for career fairs, not only from eastern Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana, but college reps from Alaska, Arizona and Alabama are also on this year’s list of participants” said Debby Coleman, Career Center secretary at Heritage High School, and coordinator of the county-wide effort. “We saw this as a way to attract a more robust roster of participants while keeping costs low for our traveling reps.”
Besides art, technical, state, and private colleges, participants in the fairs include AmeriCorps, U.S. military service branches, temp services, the trades, and several local employers.
The fairs are expected to be attended by over 7,500 Clark County students over the course of the five days.
