7th annual North County Honor Bands feature many of Clark County’s best student musicians

Honor bands to perform Sat., Feb. 1 at Hockinson High School

BRUSH PRAIRIE — The Hockinson Band Program will host the 7th annual North County Honor Bands Sat., Feb. 1 at Hockinson High School.

Approximately 130 student musicians will participate in the honor bands, representing eight high schools and fifteen middle schools from the Battle Ground, Camas, Hockinson, La Center, Ridgefield, Washougal, and Woodland school districts.  They were recommended by their band director and selected on the basis of their ability and accomplishments.

The students will rehearse Friday evening and Saturday afternoon before presenting the annual North County Honor Band Concert, Sat., Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. in the Hockinson High School Auditorium, 16819 NE 159th St. Brush Prairie, WA 98606.  The concert is free and open to the public.

The honor band is hosted by Hockinson High School band director Corey McEnry and Hockinson Middle School band director Jennifer Ritenburgh.  Many of the local band directors also accompany their students to the event, which serves as a useful observation opportunity for area band directors.

The middle school honor band will be directed by Mark Lane, professor emeritus at Central Washington University.  The high school honor band will be directed by Dr. Patrick Murphy, director of bands at the University of Portland.
