Plus more notes from a busy week in high school sports
The Ridgefield volleyball team returned to school Monday as conquering heroes.
Again.
For the second year in a row, the Spudders won the Class 2A state championship. This year, they were perfect, winning all 21 matches while only dropping six sets during the season.
We met with some of the players Monday to talk about their championship season, their title-clinching weekend, oh, and a bear, too. It’s all in the video.
In other volleyball news over the weekend, three Clark County teams ended the season on three-match win streaks.
The Columbia River Chieftains finished seventh in the 2A tourney. They lost their opening round match, then won three in a row to win the consolation bracket.
In Class 1A, the King’s Way Christian Knights did the exact same thing.
And in Class 1B, yes, Firm Foundation Christian of Battle Ground accomplished the feat, bouncing back from a first-round defeat to take seventh place.
The Class 4A tournament is this week at the Yakima Valley SunDome. Camas and Skyview qualified for state through the bi-district tournament this past weekend.
State Soccer:
The Class 2A Greater St. Helens League just keeps winning.
Ridgefield, Columbia River, and Hockinson all reached the final four of the Class 2A state tournament.
Ridgefield and Hockinson will face each other at 6 p.m. Friday in Shoreline in one semifinal. At 8 p.m., Columbia River will take on Selah. The 2A GSHL is guaranteed at least one team in the finals.
Union (4A) and Mountain View (3A) lost in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
State Swimming:
A salute to the La Center swim team. We brought you a story of the team last week. Senior Hailey Grotte then won two individual titles and junior Bryanna Ungs won one. Grotte won the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle. Ungs was victorious in the 100 breaststroke.
