Jennifer Sey, former U.S. women’s national team gymnast and founder of XX-XY Athletics, is scheduled to appear in Vancouver on Saturday, in support of Initiative 638.
Described as a “Protect Girls Sports Rally,” Sey and other supporters will deliver speeches starting at noon at Firmly Planted Family in east Vancouver. The event is being presented by Let’s Go Washington.
Female athletes from several states are expected to attend, as well, to discuss their experiences with competing against males in their sports.
If passed, I-638, on the Nov. 3 ballot in Washington, would prohibit biologically male students from participating in female-designated K-12 sports.
Sey, the 1986 U.S. All-Around champion in gymnastics, emphasizes her mission on her company website.
“For women to be recognized as champions and to simply be afforded the chance to compete on an even playing field — and avail themselves of all the vast educational and developmental opportunities that competing in sports provides — girls’ and women’s sports need to remain for girls and women only. We’ll be here defending them until that happens.”
The public is invited to attend but asked to RSVP at: https://www.letsgowa.com/stand_4_girls_sports_rsvp
Firmly Planted Family is located at 14001 SE 1st Street, Vancouver. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., with speeches planned for a noon start.
