Class 4A, 3A, 2A boys and girls tennis championships are this weekend
The last time there was a state tennis tournament, the Columbia River girls won a share of the team championship.
It’s been three years, and while the world has changed a lot, Columbia River girls tennis remains one of the best in Washington.
The Rapids will try to prove it once again at the Class 2A state girls tennis tournament at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle this weekend.
Columbia River has two individuals in the bracket, Emma Lungwitz and Ari Domniti. Plus the Rapids have two doubles teams in the mix: Evie Wenger/Syndey Dreves and Grace Rudi/Lauren Dreves.
The more wins, the more team points. The tournament starts Friday, and by Saturday late afternoon, the Rapids hope to be on top again.
In all, there are 29 tennis players from Clark County who qualified for their state tournaments.
The Class 4A boys and girls tournaments are in Kennewick. The 3A boys and girls tournaments are in Richland.
Clark County is assured of having at least two quarterfinalists.
Rohan Thawani of Union and Tommy James of Camas face each other in the first round of 4A boys singles.
In 4A girls doubles, Leilani Gonzalez/Rebekah Morgan of Skyview are taking on Tayrn Kerker/Jace Moriki of Camas in the opening round.
