
Columbia River, Seton Catholic, and Columbia Adventist Academy are still alive in the consolation brackets

The Seton Catholic Cougars just about shocked Class 1A boys basketball on Thursday.
Instead, they came up two points shy of beating the No. 1 seed.
In other games across the state, the Columbia River girls fell in the Class 2A quarterfinals, and the Columbia Adventist Academy boys lost in the Class 1B quarterfinals.
Here are how the small schools fared Thursday at state basketball tournaments in Yakima and Spokane.
Class 1A Boys
No. 1 Zillah 56, No. 7 Seton Catholic 54
Kaiden Wilson had a double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds to lead Seton Catholic, but Zillah survived a scare to advance to the championship semifinals in the Yakima Valley SunDome.
Seton Catholic trailed by seven at half but rallied to tie the game in the third quarter. It was close throughout the fourth quarter.
Lance Lee and Rico George each scored 12 points for the Cougars.
Nic Navarre had 27 points to lead Zillah.
Seton Catholic falls into the consolation bracket. The Cougars will face Riverside at 9 a.m. Friday in the fourth-place semifinals. Friday’s winner will be assured of a state trophy.
Class 2A Girls
No. 2 Lynden 50, No. 8 Columbia River 34
The Columbia River Rapids kept it close for a while, but No. 2 Lynden got a double-digit lead going into the fourth quarter and took that momentum into the championship semifinals at the Yakima Valley SunDome.
Peyton Dukes made three 3-pointers for Columbia River and finished with 16 points. Emma Iniguez added nine points, making three 3-pointers.
Payton Mills led Lynden with 15 points.
Columbia River will play Archbishop Murphy, the 6-seed, at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the fourth-place semifinals. The winner will be assured of a state trophy.
Class 1B Boys
Wellpinit 70, Columbia Adventist Academy 51
The score looks like a blowout in the Spokane Arena
It wasn’t.
Instead, it might have been a matter of Columbia Adventist Academy running out of gas after an impressive run to the state quarterfinals.
The Kodiaks had to win three state tournament games to reach this part of the bracket, and No. 2 Wellpinit got it done down the stretch. This was a four-point game going into the fourth quarter.
Tristan White led the Kodiaks with 16 points, and Collin Delaney added 14 points. Both players grabbed six rebounds.
Grant Dennison III led Wellpinit with 31 points.
Columbia Adventist will play in the fourth-place semifinals at 10:30 a.m. Friday against Moses Lake Christian-Covenant Christian.
