We’ve made it to state competition for some high school spring sports, and a few teams will be playing in Clark County this week.
Baseball will hold its state regionals this weekend, while boys soccer has opening round matches beginning Tuesday.
Softball teams begin district and bi-district play this week, to earn spots to state. The state softball tournaments can be completed in two days. For baseball and soccer, games are spaced out on the calendar and are played in roughly an 11-day stretch.
Athletes in individual sports – track and field, tennis, and golf – will also complete their events to qualify for state this week.
The final week of WIAA spring sports this year will begin next week, starting with state golf May 21 and 22. Then all other championships are held from May 23 through 25.
The opening rounds of soccer and baseball are this week.
Camas, the co-champion of the 4A Greater St. Helens League, got the No. 2 seed from the league into bi-district, then went 3-0 in that tournament, including two elimination matches, to make it to state. The seeding committee liked what it saw, giving Camas the No. 4 seed. The Papermakers will host Mount Rainier at 7 p.m. Tuesday (May 14) at Doc Harris Stadium.
In Class 2A, Columbia River won its third consecutive district championship last week. The Rapids earned a 4-seed into the state tournament. Columbia River will host No. 13 Renton at 6 p.m. Tuesday (May 14) at Columbia River High School.

The opening round of the 1A tournament starts Tuesday. King’s Way Christian, a 14-seed, will host No. 19 Meridian at 6 p.m. Tuesday (May 14).
Baseball returns to action Saturday with its regional formats. Four teams get together for three games at one site, all over the state, for the first round and then the quarterfinals. The survivors of each regional head to the final four the next week. Two of this week’s regionals will be in Clark County.
Columbia River earned the best seed among Clark County baseball teams. The Rapids are the No. 2 seed in the Class 2A tournament.
