Chieftains defeated Hockinson 1-0 in the finals; Ridgefield finishes third, giving the GSHL a sweep of the top three spots in the finals
SHORELINE — It was a clean sweep for the Greater St. Helens League at the Class 2A girls soccer state championships this weekend.
Columbia River claimed the state championship with a 1-0 victory over fellow GSHL mate Hockinson in Saturday’s final at Shoreline Stadium. The Chieftains were also the GSHL regular season champions this season.
Yaneisy Rodriguez, a senior, scored a long free kick for the lone goal of the championship match.
Columbia River advanced to Saturday’s final with a 1-0 victory over Selah in Friday’s semifinals. Hockinson advanced to the finals with a 2-0 win over Ridgefield in the other semifinal matchup on Friday.
The Chieftains’ senior class won three GSHL titles, three district titles and two state championships in their four years in the Columbia River High School program. This is the program’s fourth state title since 2009.
Ridgefield defeated Selah 3-1 Saturday to claim third place, giving the 2A GSHL the top three trophies in the state.
