Papermakers hope for a five-game win streak to defend their Class 4A state championship
The Camas Papermakers have started a new win streak.
This one, they hope, will last five games.
This one, they hope, will defend a state championship.
Camas clinched its eighth consecutive trip to the state brackets, dispatching Auburn Riverside 40-0 in a Class 4A state qualifying playoff game.
Will Schultz scored on two touchdown runs and Kyle Allen threw two touchdown passes for the Papermakers, who finished second in the 4A Greater St. Helens League and had to go on the road for a Week 10 playoff game for the first time this decade.
Once back in November, though, the Papermakers looked like a playoff-tested team. It looks like Camas (9-1) will travel to Spokane for the opening round and take on Central Valley next week.
Schultz gave Camas the early lead, then Andrew Boyle made the first of his two field goals for a 10-0 lead.
Allen found Shane Jamison on a touchdown pass for a 17-0 lead at the half.
Schultz opened the second-half scoring, as well. Boyle was true on a field goal for a 27-0 advantage.
Allen found Ryan Rushall for a touchdown, and Rylan Thompson had a rushing touchdown to finish the scoring for the Papermakers.
A year ago, Camas played its first two playoff games at home.
This year, Camas needs to win two road playoff games before getting a chance to host a game. The first came Friday in Auburn. A win next week in the first round of state would bring the Papermakers back to Doc Harris Stadium in the state quarterfinals.
