Both teams looking to bounce back with wins in consolation bracket

The Class 2A Greater St. Helens League got two teams to the elite eight of the 2A state girls basketball tournament.

Both teams are still alive for a trophy, but both lost on Thursday in the championship quarterfinals at the Yakima Valley SunDome.

Hudson’s Bay will take on West Valley of Spokane and Washougal will face Archbishop Murphy on Friday morning in elimination games. The winners will face each other Saturday for fourth place.

W.F. West 48, Hudson’s Bay 41:

Drea Brumfield had 18 points and 10 rebounds as W.F. West avenged a loss to the Eagles in the district tournament in February.

Mahaila Harrison had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead Hudson’s Bay. Aniyah Hampton and Zoriah Jones each scored nine points

Bay held W.F. West to four points in the first quarter. The Bearcats, though, rallied to take a one-point lead at the half.

W.F. West, the No. 4 seed, will face No. 2 Ellensburg in a semifinal Friday.

Hudson’s Bay will tip against West Valley at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The winner will earn a trophy from this tournament.

Burlington-Edison 53, Washougal 35:

The Washougal Panthers started off slow and never recovered Thursday morning.

Amey Rainaud had 17 points and Sydney Reiser added 16, leading Burlington-Edison to the semifinals.

Burlington-Edison was up 18-4 after the first quarter, then scored 20 more points in the second quarter.
