Event scheduled for March 30 & 31 in Amboy
AMBOY — The North Clark Historical Museum will host its 14th annual Quilt Show, Sat., March 30, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sun., March 31, noon–4 p.m. at 21416 NE 399th St., Amboy.
The theme for this year is “Quilts, Quilts, Quilts,” and the 100-year-old carefully restored United Brethren Church building, with its stained-glass windows and original wood paneling, provides a fitting background to show off the quilt work of Mavis Kent, the featured quilter and demonstrator.
Professional Geologist, Mavis Kent, has won several years’ worth of awards for her quilts at the Clark County Fair, and they will be on exhibit on the upper floor of the museum. Her expertise is hand piecing and quilting, which she appreciates for the calming effect it provides. She will demonstrate some of the hand quilting techniques, that she personally developed, on Sat., March 30 from noon till 2 p.m. On Sunday she will demonstrate her “Crazy Quilt” techniques.
On the lower floor of the museum The Chelatchie Quilters, a group led by Terry Cook, will exhibit their group quilting efforts. One of the pressures for them to produce quilts has been their commitment each year to make a raffle quilt to raise funds for the Museum, and one to be presented to a lucky veteran at the Community Celebration Honoring Our Veterans. This year’s raffle quilt, “Cabin in the Woods,” will be on display and tickets will be available. The Chelatchie Quilters produce a lot of quilts; recently they gave eighteen quilts to the Veterans’ Hospital, and they have fifteen quilts ready for the Children’s Home Society. Imagine how a foster child would feel to have a uniquely designed quilt to take along to the next new home. Those children’s quilts will be on display.
People are invited to bring family and friends and enjoy tea and cookies while they relax and enjoy the quilt show and demonstrations. No admissions fee. Donations are welcome. Wheelchair accessible.
