Community supports military, first responders, and educators and annual event.
Heroes Night continued its tradition of celebrating military veterans, first responders, and for the first time, educators.
The event, now in its sixth year, was held at the east Vancouver Costco on Saturday. A car show across the street got the festivities started, and there were military, rescue, and police vehicles on the ground outside the Costco entrance. In the air, vintage aircraft flew over the crowd.
Heroes Night is put on by the Community Military Appreciation Committee.
This year’s honorees were: Chaplain James Mead of Vancouver, a Navy retiree; Mick Hoffman, an administrator with Vancouver Public Schools; Carl Lingenfelter, a World War II veteran who will turn 100 this summer; John “Hoppie” Hopkins, a Vietnam veteran; Richard Alvarez, a Vietnam veteran who passed away last year. CMAC also honors the Buffalo Soldiers each year.
