Camas First Friday

Businesses and art galleries throughout downtown Camas will celebrate First Friday on Fri., March 3. This month’s theme is “Go Green” and features a variety of nature-inspired artwork.

CAMAS — Downtown Camas is getting back to nature next week for its monthly First Friday event.

On Fri., March 3, the “Go Green!” art walk will feature nature-inspired artwork, an environmental “green zone,” raffle tickets for those people who dress in green, Eartha the Clown and lucky leprechauns hidden throughout businesses in downtown Camas.

Following are a few of the events happening at the Camas First Friday celebration from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Fri., March 3:

Holistic Health Center Grand Opening

Practitioners at Peace Yourself Together, a new holistic health center in downtown Camas, will host a grand opening ribbon-cutting at 5 p.m., Fri., March 3, and be on hand until 8 p.m. that evening to discuss healing modalities like energy balancing, essential oils, bio-energetic screening and the Retracing Sequence Method. Visitors can also learn about the center’s two mild hyperbaric oxygen and LED light therapy chambers.

Artist Lara Blair’s beach- and nature-inspired artwork will be on display inside the new holistic health center, located at 506 N.E. Everett St., near the Camas Public Library.

A familiar face at art shows throughout Southwest Washington and Northwest Oregon, Blair is perhaps best known for her photography, her Modern Prairie Girl blog and the Ignite the Heart art workshops she co-teaches with Elida Field. In Camas, however, many locals know her as a third-grade teacher at Lacamas Heights Elementary School. Although she owned a fine art photography studio for more than a decade before returning to teaching four years ago, Blair says she recently “reclaimed her creative mojo” and has been concentrating on painting and illustrating.

Several of Blair’s most recent pieces — including several beach-inspired paintings — will be on display throughout Peace Yourself Together during the First Friday event on March 3. For more information on Blair, visit her blog at www.modernprairiegirl.com.

Nature-inspired Artwork

The “Go Green!” First Friday event will feature the work of three other artists at galleries throughout downtown Camas on Fri., March 3.

Throughout the month of March, the Camas Gallery will showcase the nature-inspired artwork of Dr. Mehrdad Shojaei, a Vancouver physician who says he has found “what was missing from his life” in nature photography.

In a press release sent out by the Camas Galley, Dr. Shojaei says he would like to explore using photography to help improve his patients’ healing process and that he “believes the use of photography in storytelling can bring profound results in improving the health of patients as much as music, art and pets.”

Camas Gallery, located at 408 N.E. 4th Ave., in downtown Camas, will host a reception for First Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Fri., March 3. The event is free and open to the public.

Other featured artists at the March 3 First Friday celebration include Skip Enge, who will show his “watercolors with an industrial edge” at the Second Story Gallery, located on the second floor of the Camas Public Library, at 624 N.E. 4th Ave., in downtown Camas; and Earl Hamilton, who will give three painting demonstrations from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Fri., March 3, at the Attic Gallery, 421 N.E. Cedar St., Camas.

Fun for the Whole Family

The March 3 “Go Green!” celebration also includes a wide variety of family-friendly and environmentally conscious events, including a Green Zone at Journey Church, 304 N.E. 4th Ave., Camas, where nonprofits and local school groups will host educational, kid-friendly activities focused on “making the world a greener place.”

In keeping with the “green” theme, Eartha the Clown and Major the cockatoo will greet families throughout downtown Camas (if it’s not raining), from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to talk about the environment and take photos with children and families. In case of inclement weather, Eartha and Major will be found inside the Green Zone at Journey Church, at 304 N.E. 4th Ave., in downtown Camas.
