Annual Holiday Light Show to open Fri., Nov. 29

Event at Portland International Raceway helps Families In Need

PORTLAND —  The Safeway Winter Wonderland holiday light show, powered by Advantis Credit Union, opens for the season starting Fri., Nov. 29, from 5 to 11 p.m. at Portland International Raceway (PIR).

The light show operates as a fundraiser for Sunshine Division’s food and clothing assistance programs. Title sponsor, the Safeway Foundation, and “powered by” sponsor, Advantis Credit Union, provide significant funding for the holiday light show again this year.

“Expect more LED upgrades, new light displays, and a refurbishment of classic displays we haven’t seen in a few years at this year’s show” said Sunshine Division’s Executive Director, Kyle Camberg. “We are committed to making more upgrades in the years to come, including additional light displays and a nearly complete transition to energy-efficient LED bulbs this season.”

The show hours are:

Sun.-Thu., 5:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. and Fri.-Sat., 5-11 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased in advance online, or for the best value visit Portland-area Albertsons and Safeway stores customer service desks where tickets are the same price since 2015, and can be purchased in person for $18 while supplies last.

Bike the Lights Night

Fri., Nov. Nov. 29, from 5-11 p.m. (at PIR)

Bike the lights with your family. Don’t have a bike? BiketownPDX will be onsite with a limited number of bikes to share. Don’t forget to deck your bike with lights! Helmets required for kids 16 and under.

No cars or motorized vehicles of any kind, roller blades, strollers, or walking allowed on the track on this night.

Lights & Leashes Dog Walk Nights

Dec. 2 & 3, from 5:30-9:30 p.m. (at PIR)

New this year, two nights

Walk the light show with or without your dog. Bring a bag of grain-free pet food to donate to furry friends in need. Meet the hardest working dogs in Portland, Portland Police Bureau’s K-9s.

Dress up your pooch for the 7 p.m. costume contest and stop by the sponsor booths and food carts!

No cars or motorized vehicles of any kind, roller blades, bikes, or scooters are allowed on the track on this night.

Sunshine Division has been committed to making holiday seasons brighter for local families since 1923. Winter Wonderland aligns with that mission by creating a platform to generate community support during a critical time of year. The 2019 show will be managed on behalf of Sunshine Division, with support from the Hood to Coast Race Series staff. This year’s show opens Fri., Nov. 29, 2019 and closes Sat., Jan. 4, 2020.

Recognized throughout the Pacific Northwest as the “Largest Holiday Light Show West of the Mississippi”, the 27th annual Winter Wonderland Holiday Light Show at Portland International Raceway is now a signature fund and food-raiser for Sunshine Division. Spectators can enjoy the most impressive drive-through light show in the region, viewing over 250 colorful light set pieces and many fully animated scenes from the comfort of their own vehicle. Over two million visitors have taken the Winter Wonderland journey since its origin.

About Sunshine Division

Since 1923, Sunshine Division has provided free emergency food and clothing to families and individuals in times of crisis. This December marks 97 years that Sunshine Division and Portland Police Bureau members will home deliver holiday food boxes. This year, 3,800 food boxes will be delivered to families in need via two Portland police precincts and the Sunshine Division warehouses. An additional 25,000-plus holiday meals will be distributed to over 70 schools, churches, nonprofits, and governmental agencies throughout the metro area (at no cost) to help the families and individuals they serve in their communities.
