This is in response to Ken Vance’s “Opinion: Reaction to death of Cowlitz County deputy reveals public sentiment about law enforcement.

As Immediate Past President of Concerns of Police Survivors (ConcernsOfPoliceSurvivors.Org), I can attest to Ken’s assertion that the majority of Americans respect and support law enforcement. His use of facts of the 2018 Gallup Poll reinforce this. Based on my speaking engagements across the country, I concur that Americans appreciate the often-thankless career to which our law enforcers have been called.

The shocking murder of Cowlitz County Deputy Justin DeRosier and the accompanying outpouring of offers of assistance and fundraising for his young family, confirms that communities are grateful for those who stand on the Thin Blue Line to secure our safety.

I pray for continued blessings on those who serve, and peace and comfort for those who grieve.

Brenda Donner, Immediate Past President
Concerns of Police Survivors
