Washougal City Council resumes in-person meetings

Masks or proof of vaccination will not be required for entry into Washougal City Hall

The Washougal County Council will return to in-person meetings on March 14 after nearly two years of virtual sessions, Mayor Rochelle Ramos announced. Masks or proof of vaccination will not be required for entry into Washougal City Hall.

“I’m anxious to move back to in-person meetings,” Council Member Molly Coston noted. “I think we’re losing an element of collegiality and conversation that is important.”

In March 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic, the council and city staff quickly transitioned to virtual meetings in accordance with state mandates on public meetings to slow the spread of COVID-19.

One positive take away from meetings during the pandemic was the ability for residents to participate without coming to city hall. The city plans to continue this option by implementing a hybrid format via the communications platform Zoom. Existing video equipment has been modified to accommodate the hybrid format. Plans are underway for the installation of an upgraded council chambers audio/video system, but several of its components are backordered because of supply chain issues.

“I’m looking forward to going back to some bit of normal,” Council Member Janice Killion stated.
