Just before 11 a.m. Friday (Feb. 25), Vancouver Fire Department units responded to an apartment fire at 3901 E 18th street in Vancouver’s Harney Heights neighborhood.
Responding crews noticed a column of smoke up to a mile away. The first fire apparatus arrived within four minutes and called a second alarm as they found smoke and fire coming from several windows around a two-story apartment building.
Firefighters conducted a search of the two apartments in the building. The bottom floor was vacant and all occupants on the second floor were able to evacuate safely.
Firefighters initially attacked the fire by spraying water from the outside before entering the apartment with their hose lines once more help arrived.
A total of 28 firefighters responded to the fire, which was extinguished within 10 minutes.
The Red Cross was requested to assist two adults and three children who were displaced. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office.
