When the first crews arrived, they found a small single-story house with an exterior porch fire. The fire appeared to be threatening the interior of the house and the attic space. Crews quickly pulled a fire hose and started extinguishing the fire. At the same time, firefighters ensured that everyone was out of the house. However, there was a report of the family dog still inside.

Once crews were able to get the exterior fire under control, they went inside to look for the dog. In a few seconds, they were able to find a puppy hiding in a bedroom under a bed and the puppy was safely brought out to the awaiting family.

The VFD had the fire under control in approximately 10 minutes with 20 firefighters and there were no injuries reported. The Fire Department was working with the family to find a place to stay for the homeowner.

The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause.
