BATTLE GROUND – Transportation challenges and priorities for residents, businesses and visitors to Southwest Washington will be the focus of a two-day visit to Battle Ground by the Washington State Transportation Commission on Sept. 13-14. Commission members will hear from local officials and community leaders on transportation needs in the fast-growing north Clark County area, and they also hope to hear from the general public as well.

The meeting takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. Tue., Sept. 13, and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wed., Sept. 14, in the City Council Chambers at Battle Ground City Hall,109 SW First St. This is a public meeting and persons wishing to speak to the commission may do so during the public comment period scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Wed., Sept. 14.

Highlights of the two-day meeting include:

  • The successful collaboration of multiple jurisdictions, service providers and other partners to maintain and improve transportation facilities in the Southwest Washington region of the state.
  • Critical connections between transportation and economic development, and the rapid growth of north Clark County.
  • Active transportation opportunities and developments in the area, such as the Week Without Driving 2022 event taking place Sept. 19-25.

The commission holds several meetings throughout the state each year to gain insight from local government, industry and citizens about transportation issues that affect their communities and region. This information helps commission members develop and implement transportation policies and make recommendations to the state Legislature and Governor. In November, the commission will hold its final 2022 local meeting in Anacortes.
