CLARK COUNTY — Several municipalities in the Clark County area are closing their city offices earlier than normal today, or have already closed, due to the freezing rain and ice that hasn’t recently started to hit the area early this afternoon. The inclement weather is expected to continue into the late afternoon and early evening hours Tuesday.
Numerous public meetings in the various cities have also been canceled this evening, as well as some school district meetings in the area.
Battle Ground
The city of Battle Ground closed City Hall offices at noon today. Essential personnel remain on duty. The City Council study session and regular meeting that were both scheduled for tonight have both been canceled.
After a period of expected freezing rain, there will be rain and lots of it. With the amount of snow/ice still on streets, community members and businesses must now try to minimize the risk of localized flooding.
Snow or ice blocking storm drains can keep water from flowing into the drainage system and can quickly create areas of standing water. If you can easily and safely keep the storm drains clear in your neighborhoods or adjacent to your businesses, the city is asking you to do so. Crews will be doing the same in the most affected areas, but with more than 1,800 catch basins and inlets, it will literally take a village.
If you see any signs of standing water or flooding in the city of Battle Ground, call Public Works at (360) 342-5350 during regular business hours (7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.), after hours at (360-635-7076, or by using the online Citizen Action Request.
Self-service sand and bags are available at the Public Works Operations Center located at 1308 SE Grace Ave., Battle Ground. BYOS (bring your own shovel).
