One female resident and one family pet died Thursday evening after a vehicle crashed into a house in the Fruit Valley neighborhood of Vancouver.
At 6:40 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 3), Vancouver Fire crews were dispatched to the intersection of Fourth Plain and Fruit Valley Road for the report that a vehicle had crashed into a building with possible occupants trapped.
Initial Vancouver Fire engines arrived and found that a vehicle had crashed into a house at 2607 Unander Ave. in Vancouver.
Vancouver Fire also dispatched its heavy rescue and technical rescue team to make sure the house did not collapse on emergency responders and to provide extrication. Vancouver Fire responded with 17 members to the scene.
The Vancouver Police Department was on scene as well as two ambulances from American Medical Response.
The deceased female and family pet were in the house at the time of the collision. They passed away at the scene. Two other people who lived in the house have been displaced and the Vancouver Fire Chaplain was called to the scene.
The decedent has been identified by the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office as 37-year-old Danielle A. Abrahams, The cause of death was mechanical asphyxia from being pinned under car that crashed into her house.
The driver was transported to an area hospital for evaluation of injuries, which appear to be non-life threatening.
The preliminary investigation by the Vancouver Police Department indicates the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed, hit a median curb, crashed through a fence and then into the house. Impairment and speed were factors in the crash.
Pending charges for the driver, once released from the hospital, include DUI and Vehicular Homicide. The investigation is continuing and nothing further is being released at this time.
