VANCOUVER – Travelers who use northbound Interstate 5 near northern Vancouver and Ridgefield should plan ahead for nighttime delays beginning the evening of Sunday, July 14 and continuing nightly through Thursday, July 25.

The Washington State Department of Transportation’s maintenance crews will perform pavement repairs along northbound I-5 between mileposts 1.8 and 13.2, which require single, double, and full lane closures of the highway.

During the full overnight closure of northbound I-5, all travelers will exit the highway using Exit 7B for Northeast 139th Street, and re-enter the highway using the on-ramp for northbound I-5.

What travelers need to know

  • Nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday, July 14 to Tuesday, July 16: Up to two lanes of northbound I-5 between East 33rd Street (milepost 2.0) and Main Street (milepost 3.0) will be closed. The on-ramps from Mill Plain Boulevard and 4th Plain Boulevard and the ramp from northbound I-5 to eastbound State Route 500 will also close.

Additional paving work is needed along this stretch of I-5 and is scheduled for later this summer. More information will be shared once the dates are confirmed.

Once the paving work is complete, the improvements will enhance the overall driving experience and extend the life of the highway for many years to come.

As with any highway maintenance and construction project, travelers must exercise caution through work zones. To keep both road users and road workers safe, travelers are asked to have patience and follow advanced warning signs.
