Key piece of Vancouver Waterfront to be revitalized

The site, visible from the I-5 Bridge, will be home to a new mixed-use project

VANCOUVER — Kirkland Development is announcing its latest project and plan to reimagine another segment of the Vancouver waterfront.

The Vancouver-based company is the new owner of a 3.5-acre parcel located at 111/101 SE Columbia Way, just east of the Interstate Bridge. Originally developed in 1980, the site is currently home to two restaurants, Joe’s Crab Shack and Who Song & Larry’s.

Kirkland will be redeveloping the waterfront site into a mixed-use project, with 300,000 square feet of residential 50,000 square feet of retail. Overall, it may include residential, retail, office, hotel and restaurants. The project is still in the design phase, and construction is expected to take 24 to 36 months. Kirkland is partnering with Portland, Ore.-based architect Otak on the project.

“This is an incredible opportunity to re-envision a key section of Vancouver’s waterfront. Our goal is to bring new life to this area, and to create a unique destination for Vancouver residents and visitors alike,” said Dean Kirkland, chairman of Kirkland Development.

“It will be the perfect continuation of the city’s newly revitalized waterfront, and will bring exciting new life to the other side of the Interstate Bridge. As a Vancouver native, I’m incredibly thrilled and proud to be helping reshape one of our city’s biggest assets – its waterfront. It’s even more special since the location is in many ways the visual gateway to both Vancouver and the state of Washington as you cross the bridge from Portland,” he continued.

The new project adds to Kirkland Development’s Vancouver waterfront portfolio. The company is also currently building the Hotel Indigo and Kirkland Tower, located in Block 4 at The Waterfront in downtown Vancouver. A hotel and tower consisting of 40 luxury condominiums, this is the first condominium project along the new Waterfront Park. The project is slated for completion in 2020.

Kirkland Development is represented by George Diamond and Nicholas Diamond of Real Estate Investment Group on the sale of the 3.5 acres, and is exclusively handling the Kirkland Tower condominium sales as well.
