One is a partial replacement levy, and the other is a new capital levy
HOCKINSON — The Hockinson School Board approved two levy resolutions for the April 23 election ballot during its Feb. 19 special meeting. One is a partial replacement levy, and the other is a new capital levy.
The requests are identical to the ones that received 47.46 percent and 46.06 percent “yes” votes, respectively, in the Feb. 12 election. They needed 50 percent plus one vote to pass.
“We heard our community’s voice and recognize that not everyone supports these levies,” said Superintendent Sandra Yager. “However, without this funding, the cuts we will need to make to our district — especially in terms of staff and programming — are deep. We believe it is worth making the case a second time.”
Of Washington’s 295 school districts, 289 — 98 percent — have operations levies, and 104 — 35 percent — have capital levies. Hockinson is the only district out of 41 running operations levy elections statewide to fail in this month’s election. Four of the 19 capital levy elections failed.
