Full closure of the roadway between Northeast 159th Street and Northeast 172nd Street to take place for emergency storm pipe repair
VANCOUVER – Drivers along Northeast 72nd Avenue should prepare for a full closure of Northeast 72nd Avenue beginning Tue., Sept. 8. The roadway will be closed to allow crews with Clark County Public Works’ contractor to perform emergency repair on a section of failing storm pipe under the road. The closure and associated work are expected to take three-to-four weeks and is weather dependent, which could extend the closure.
In late August, maintenance crews with Clark County Public Works found a small sinkhole on the roadway shoulder, alerting them to a potential problem beneath the roadway. After inspection, crews found that around 700 lineal feet of storm pipe was failing, which could result in sinkholes and other critical damage to the roadway. The contractor will replace the damaged pipe beneath the roadway and re-pave the road making it safe for drivers.
Local traffic and emergency access will be permitted during the road closure. Non-local drivers can use Northeast 50th Avenue as a detour, following the signed route.
