Casino officials hope to sponsor display in the near future
The Fourth of July fireworks show put on by ilani at the Clark County Fairgrounds will not happen this year, but casino officials are leaving their options open to having a fireworks display at a later date.
“This year, due to extremely high temperatures and the risk of fire, the 4th and the Fairgrounds show will be postponed,” said Kara Fox-LaRose, president and general manager of ilani. “We look forward to sharing updates on our incredible fireworks show in the near future.”
The casino has hosted a show at the fairgrounds for a few years now. Last year, there were no spectators allowed, but the casino still had a display that was broadcast, commercial-free, on KPTV Channel 12. That was the plan again this year.
But the region was hit with a historic heat wave.
On Tuesday, Clark County banned the sale and use of fireworks in the unincorporated area for the remainder of the traditional fireworks season.
The county is implementing the ban pursuant to Clark County Code which provides that the Clark County council chair, after consulting with the fire marshal, can prohibit the sale and use of fireworks during periods of extreme fire danger.
