Evergreen School District announces schedule changes and cancellations due to COVID-19

Action is not related to an increase in COVID-19 cases in Clark County, and at this time, there are no presumptive cases associated with Evergreen Public Schools

VANCOUVER — Evergreen Public Schools has decided to proactively begin suspending events that bring large groups of students, adults, and community members together as Washington and Oregon respond to COVID-19.

This action is not related to an increase in COVID-19 cases in Clark County, and at this time, there are no presumptive cases associated with Evergreen Public Schools. School districts in our area have not been directed to close by Washington Gov. Jay Inslee.

The suspension of non-essential school-based activities begins immediately. As of 11 a.m. today (Thu., March 12) through Spring Break, the following are now canceled:

  • School concerts and performances
  • Middle school girls basketball games
  • School assemblies
  • School-wide events (such as PTA/O, Booster Clubs)
  • Dances
  • Volunteers working within schools
  • Field trips
  • Washington state (WIAA-sanctioned) drama and dance competitions
  • Professional Staff Development requiring substitutes

Practices (sports, theater, etc.) may continue. As a reminder, there is already a scheduled no school day on Mon., March 16 and this has not changed. The list of affected activities may grow as the district works with partners: Clark County Public Health, Washington State Department of Health, OSPI and stakeholders over the coming days. Updates and already shared information is on the Evergreen Public Schools website.

District officials ask its patrons to keep children at home when they are sick. If students are showing signs of a respiratory illness (fever, cough, and/or shortness of breath), keep them at home until they have been fever-free for at least 72 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and other symptoms are better.

To be clear, Evergreen Public Schools are taking every step possible to continue to provide high-quality education for all of our students and keep our schools operating as directed by officials. The district will continue to provide immediate updates as information becomes available.
