Thirteen residents displaced by fire at Cherry Creek Apartments
An elderly woman was rescued from an apartment fire that displaced 13 residents Friday in Vancouver.
At 6:35 p.m. Friday (Dec. 16), the Vancouver Fire Department was dispatched to a fire alarm at 3200 NE 62nd Ave. in Vancouver, the site of the Cherry Creek Apartments.
The first-arriving fire engine found the hallway of the apartment complex filled with smoke and a significant amount of water on the floor. Additional units were called to respond to the scene.
A resident reported there was an elderly female still in her apartment. A hose line was deployed through the front door of the complex and crews quickly began searching. Firefighters found the elderly female lying on her bed in the apartment where the fire had started and quickly moved her outside. An American Medical Response ambulance was on scene and transported the patient to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire was controlled by sprinklers in the apartment and fire crews worked to remove smoke. All other occupants were safely evacuated either on their own or with assistance from fire crews. In total there were four engines, one truck and two battalion chiefs on scene.
The 13 displaced residents were provided temporary housing by the Vancouver Housing Authority while the residence is restored. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Vancouver Fire Department wants to remind citizens to check the smoke detectors in their homes.
