James D. Mattson, 38, of Vancouver, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Jail Thursday for 137 counts of Voyeurism in the 1st degree
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has made an arrest in the investigation into an alleged voyeurism incident at Alki Middle School.
James D. Mattson, 38, of Vancouver, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Jail Thursday (Oct. 13) for 137 counts of Voyeurism in the 1st degree.
The initial findings all stemmed from videos taken in female staff bathrooms at Skyview High School. The videos were from as far back as 2013.
The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit (MCU) is still actively working this investigation and as investigators continue with digital forensics, additional charges from additional locations may still be possible. As has been previously stated by CCSO personnel, these types of investigations involving digital forensics are complex. They require time to process the type and amount of evidence involved.
None of the involved victims have yet been identified. MCU detectives will work with Vancouver Public Schools once the investigation is complete to try and identify those involved.
More information will be released as updates become available.
On Oct. 5, CCSO was notified by Vancouver Public Schools (VPS) staff of a possible voyeurism incident in which a VPS employee had allegedly videotaped female students in the Alki Middle School locker rooms.
VPS staff immediately reported the information to the Sheriff’s Office and closed and secured the locker rooms at the school.
The suspected VPS employee had already left school grounds by the time the incident was reported to CCSO. CCSO located and contacted the suspected VPS employee this afternoon. They have declined to cooperate with investigators.
Detectives from the MCU responded to the school and the suspected employee’s residence. They served search warrants at the residence and also searched the locker rooms and other areas at Alki Middle School.
The Sheriff’s Office received full cooperation from Vancouver Public Schools and the Alki Middle School staff. VPS made notifications to families that attend the school.
