Clark County will be the site of the only known candidate forum involving seven Republican gubernatorial candidates prior to the August primary election. The event, to be held Thu., July 9, will be hosted by the Clark County Republican Women.

The event is the culmination of work by former state legislator Liz Pike, current president of the CCRW, and others from the organization.

“Clark County Republican Women are honored to host this important gubernatorial forum for Republican candidates,’’ Pike told Clark County Today. “With primary ballots expected to be mailed out in a few weeks, it’s imperative Washington voters make an informed decision in this race. Conducting voter education outreach with candidate forums and encouraging Republican women to public office is our central mission.’’

Due to restrictions on public gatherings, the event will be held at Pike’s Shangri-La Farm in Camas. A limited number of tickets sold out quickly for the event. Due to seating limitations,  all guests must be on the paid reservations list. To be added to the waiting list in case of cancellations, email ccrwclubinfo@gmail.com

The Republican candidates participating in the event include Loren Culp, Tim Eyman, Phil Fortunato, Joshua Freed, Raul Garcia, Anton Sahkarov, and Martin Wheeler.

Candidates will answer a series of questions about issues of statewide significance. Each candidate will be given one minute to respond to each question and the candidates will also be given two minutes for both an opening and closing statement.

“Governor Jay Inslee has proven himself unfit for office,’’ Pike said. “He’s mishandled the pandemic response, causing job loss for nearly one million residents in our state, and allowed a massive hacking of tax-payer funded unemployment insurance reserves by foreign criminals. This will cost our state upwards of $850 million.

“His one-size fits all approach has compounded the problems now facing many Washington families and business owners,’’ Pike said of Inslee. “Some businesses will never reopen.  And if these weren’t bad enough, Inslee has demonstrated an epic failure of leadership regarding his handling of the CHAZ/CHOP fiasco in Seattle. He’s made our state the laughing stock of the nation. Citizens deserve better.’’

Clark County Today and Lacamas Magazine will provide interested voters across the state the ability to view the forum in its entirety. Clark County Today will have the forum available on our website beginning Fri., July 10. Lacamas Magazine will stream the event live on its Facebook page.

“CCRW has been working on this event for Southwest Washington voters since January,’’ Pike said. “We are grateful the Republican candidates have pledged to appear in person at a live forum in Clark County.  Because of Inslee’s forced shutdowns, this may be one of the few forums of its kind ahead of the August 4th primary.

“CCRW hopes millions of registered voters will view this forum before they cast a ballot in the Washington governor’s race,’’ Pike said. “There’s no substitute for an informed electorate. This is an important election. Our freedom is at stake.”
