Camas man killed in accident in Portland

Zachary David Crist was struck by a motorcycle while walking in the St. Johns Neighborhood Friday

The pedestrian who was struck and killed by a motorcyclist Friday (Aug. 28) in the St. Johns Neighborhood in Portland has been identified as 28-year-old Zachary David Crist of Camas.

After an initial investigation, the Portland Police Bureau’s Major Crash Team officers believe that the motorcycle rider was traveling westbound on North Lombard Street at an extremely high rate of speed and struck Crist in the roadway near the 6100 block. Crist was wearing all dark clothing and the area, while lit by street lamps, has dark spots that make nighttime visibility difficult.

The impact caused the motorcycle, a 2010 BMW S1000R, to fall and the rider died at the scene as well. The rider was identified as Dylan M. Foord, 27, of Newberg.

Officers reported that there were numerous cars and motorcycles leaving the area after the crash and it appeared there was an illegal speed racing event happening in the area. The dangerous events have been an ongoing concern of Portland Police, and often feature cars doing stunts and displays of speed with spectators very close by.

Investigators believe that there are additional witnesses to the crash and the events leading up to it, and that there may be video as well. Anyone with additional information is asked to reach out to primary traffic investigator Officer Garrett Dow at (503) 823-5070 or Garrett.Dow@portlandoregon.gov.
