On May 2, members of the Battle Ground City Council visited the Community Center to review the recently installed landscaping improvements.
The Battle Ground Community Center, located at 912 E. Main Street, opened in 2008. In August 2020, the facility underwent a much-needed refresh that included staining of the exterior beams, refinished flooring, and a fresh coat of paint inside and out. This landscaping redesign carried the restoration efforts outside to the immediate grounds and surrounding parking lot areas. This maintenance work not only protects this beautiful public asset, but also creates a more welcoming environment benefiting residents, visitors and businesses alike.
A Community Center Landscape Committee formed in early 2021; comprised of three Planning Commission members and two City Council members. Planning Commission member Stacy Kysar, a landscaping architect, donated her time and skill to create a landscape and planting plan, later approved by the Committee. Staff sought sponsorships for donated materials, funds, and volunteers while engineering and plan review for the project was underway. With city funds and a generous contribution from an anonymous donor, the Community Center Landscape Project was complete in less than a month.
The Battle Ground Community Center is a 12,000-square-foot facility offering several meeting spaces including a spacious banquet room featuring a fireplace and floor to ceiling glass doors that open to a garden and covered patio area. The versatility of the facility lends itself to many uses: recreation and education programs; business and community meetings; weddings and receptions; and any number of special events.
Battle Ground officials would be delighted to open the doors of the community center for your next big event. Visit the Parks & Recreation staff for more information on facility rentals and availability.
The city would like to thank Stacy Kysar and the anonymous donor for their contributions, helping make this project a reality. It is through partnerships like these that Battle Ground is able to thrive; making us more than just a city, we are a community.
