Attic fire displaces nine in Vancouver

Six of the family members were at home at the time of the fire

A total of nine family members, including six who were home at the time, were displaced Tuesday by an attic fire at a Vancouver residence.

At 7:46 a.m. Tuesday (May 11), members of the Vancouver Fire Department and Clark County Fire District 6 were dispatched to 714 E 39th Street to the report of smoke coming from the attic vents. Prior to the arrival of fire crews, Good Samaritans knocked on the door alerting the occupants and helped them evacuate.

First arriving fire crews found smoke coming from the attic vents and light smoke inside the single story home. The first crew that was sent inside found a small fire burning in the attic and was able to extinguish it quickly.

The American Red Cross will be assisting the family with immediate needs. No injuries were reported and the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s office was called to the scene to investigate cause and damage determination. A total of seven fire apparatus and 20 firefighters were on scene to battle the blaze.
