Free Repair Program expands offerings to residents

Repair Clark County program partners with local groups to increase the types of items they can fix

VANCOUVER — Conservation Through Repair. That is the goal of Repair Clark County, a traveling program of Columbia Springs. This program moves around to various venues throughout Clark County and holds 2 hour “fix it fairs” where the public can bring in broken items and have them repaired for free.

For the February event, Repair Clark County will again partner with the Vancouver Community Library and offer repair of electronics, appliances, bicycles, sewing projects, and other items, such as jewelry or household decor. The program also regularly offers sharpening of knives, garden tools and other dull items. In addition, representatives from the Northwest Vintage Radio Society will be testing, diagnosing issues and dispensing free advice on vintage radios and other antiques that contain tubes.

Library staff will be demonstrating a 3D printer throughout the event and also offering information on various sewing classes. Finally, the fair will include light book repair, such as gluing of bindings or repair of pages in children’s books and cookbooks.

“We’re excited to be fixing more and more things all the time.” says Terra Heilman, the program coordinator. “There are so many items that just need a little TLC and they can be bringing joy to their owners once again.”

The next repair event takes place at the Vancouver Community Library on Wed., Feb. 26 from 5-7 p.m.
