Small business program will feature area HR specialist during monthly forum
VANCOUVER — The WSUV Carson College of Business will hold its monthly Business Growth Mentor and Analysis Alliance event on Wed., Jan. 15 at the Hudson Building in downtown Vancouver.
The event will last from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and has required registration. Cost for attendance is $10 per person, but current WSU students will be admitted for free.
This time around, business minds will get to hear from area human resources specialist Gabrielle Stonecypher. She will speak on the best practices for “Talent Management: Attracting and Retaining Awesome People.”
Stonecypher, who has worked in HR for more than 15 years, is currently in the first year of her own HR company, Gorge HR, which operates out of downtown Vancouver and seeks to help businesses across the west coast with their HR needs.
During her presentation, Stonecyper will explain when businesses should hire new staff, how business owners can attract talented employees and what business owners can do to retain said talent.
According to WSUV, 95 percent of their students will stay in the region upon graduation. This is among one of the top reasons for the MAP Alliance program and the regular meetings with speakers like Stonecypher, the college writes.
Student consultancy and the Alliance itself, form the two halves to the program. Student teams are paired up with small businesses to provide the consultation services, and business owners from all over can attend the monthly gatherings.
Since the program’s inception in 2011, 109,000 hours of free consultation to small businesses in the area have been given out. Some 311 businesses have participated, and over $15 million in new revenues were added to the local economy through the program, according to WSUV.
