Miller’s passion for her students shows through in her unique lesson planning that truly helps them prepare for their futures. Whether she is leading a unit on potential careers in her independent living course or teaching practical workforce skills in her culinary program, her focus remains on helping her students succeed in life beyond the classroom.

As a Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher, Miller believes that “education is more than classroom learning.” When asked what her message would be as the Teacher of the Year, she emphasizes that there is more than one path to success for students. This means it has become increasingly more important for students to learn skills such as communication and accountability in the workplace.

“She truly epitomizes what it means to be a professional educator,” said Paul Huddleston, CTE Director for Woodland School District. “If you’ve ever watched her in action, you witnessed a knowledgeable and inspiring teacher that finds ways to make learning both relevant and fun for her students.”

Miller joins colleagues from the state’s other eight ESDs as finalists for state Teacher of the Year. The winner will be announced by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction at an awards reception in in the fall.
