Two occupants in one of the vehicles required hydraulic spreaders and other extrication tools in order to get out safely
VANCOUVER — On Sunday afternoon, the Vancouver Fire Department responded to the scene of a two-car crash on NW Erwin O. Rieger Highway and NW Lower River Road.
The first truck arrived at about 3 p.m. Sunday and found a Chevy Suburban partially on the top of a Volkswagen SUV. Occupants of the SUV were able to get themselves out safely. They were uninjured.
Firefighters used extendable rescue struts and straps to safely stabilize the vehicle. Two occupants in the Suburban required hydraulic spreaders and other extrication tools in order to get out safely. One person was transported to an area hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
Vancouver firefighters identified downed power lines and ensured that the public, the patients, and their crew remained safe throughout the incident. Clark Public Utilities was requested to assist with the downed power lines. Emergency crews closed down Lower River Road during the extrication.
Further investigation of the crash is being conducted by Vancouver Police.
