The seven-member Vancouver Planning Commission serves as a volunteer citizen advisory body and makes recommendations to Vancouver City Council on land use issues
VANCOUVER — The city of Vancouver is seeking applicants to fill one vacancy on its Planning Commission. Applications must be received by the City Manager’s Office by 5 p.m. Fri., Sept. 27.
The seven-member Vancouver Planning Commission serves as a volunteer citizen advisory body and makes recommendations to Vancouver City Council on land use issues, including the city’s Comprehensive Plan, individual district plans, and zoning and development regulations.
The commission membership reflects a broad range of neighborhoods, professional and community experience and perspectives, and seeks to be representative of the cultural diversity of the Vancouver community. The commission is seeking candidates with interest and experience in community planning, urban design or housing development, and who are active in business, neighborhood or community affairs.
In order to be eligible to serve on the Planning Commission, applicants must be a Vancouver resident or live in the unincorporated Vancouver Urban Growth Area (VUGA). Applicants must also be available for an interview with Vancouver City Council members on Mon., Oct. 21.
The open position is currently held by an individual whose term is expiring. This individual may or may not reapply for their position. Per Vancouver City Council policy, all incumbents who wish to reapply for their positions will be re-interviewed along with any other qualifying candidates.
Participation in the Vancouver Planning Commission requires a significant time commitment of approximately 15 hours per month. This includes regular attendance at bi-monthly meetings at 4 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Attendance at other sub-committee or City Council meetings may be required. Commissioners prepare for meetings by reviewing a variety of staff reports, maps and technical information, and by making site visits.
