VANCOUVER — The community is invited to learn about the city of Vancouver’s Northeast 18th Street West project during an informational open house from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Thu., June 6, at Henrietta Lacks (HeLa) Health and Bioscience High School, 9105 NE 9th St.
The city is in the early design stages of this project to upgrade the segment of Northeast 18th Street that lies west of Interstate 205, from Northeast 107th Avenue to Northeast 97th Avenue. Residents are invited to stop by any time during the open house in the high school commons to meet with the project design team, get information and share ideas.
Northeast 18th Street is an important east-west travel corridor that the city has been steadily improving in segments over time. Upgrading this next segment will require adding a new section of street between Northeast 100th and NE 105th avenues. Overall improvements may be expected to include features such as multimodal facilities, roundabouts, street lights, stormwater facilities, sound walls, sidewalks, and a multi-use pathway.
Design work for this project is expected to continue through 2019, with potential right-of-way acquisition to follow in 2020. The city is seeking grant opportunities to assist with construction, which is not currently funded.
