Vancouver police arrest ‘prolific garden center thief’

According to police, about $6,000 worth of merchandise had been stolen from outdoor displays in the past several weeks

VANCOUVER — Vancouver police have arrested a suspect described as a “prolific garden center thief” and recovered 157 stolen plants, a garden cart, a display rack and methamphetamine after a string of thefts reported at the Fred Meyer located at 11325 SE Mill Plain Boulevard, according to a press release.

Thomas M. Aldin, 41, was booked into the Clark County Jail for alleged second-degree possession of stolen property, theft with intent to resell, first-degree trafficking stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.

His arrest came Saturday after a detectives from the Vancouver Police Department served a search warrant at a residence in the 1700 block of SE 125th Avenue and a vehicle parked at the location.

The merchandise had reportedly been stolen over the past several weeks.

“The Fred Meyer loss prevention staff began an investigation and also contacted Vancouver Police,” according to the press release. “Over the course of the investigation, information was obtained regarding a suspect vehicle and identification of the suspect.”

The stolen property was valued at about $6,000.
