Vancouver Parks and Recreation awarded $60K to fuel youth, family programming

The four community grant projects focus on creating safe, supportive and equitable recreation opportunities for residents throughout Vancouver

VANCOUVER — Vancouver Parks and Recreation received over $60,000 in ongoing community grant funding to support youth and family recreation programing at the Parks Foundation of Clark County’s annual luncheon and membership meeting May 14.

The four community grant projects focus on creating safe, supportive and equitable recreation opportunities for residents throughout Vancouver.

  • $26,000 to Summer Playground Programs from the Tod and Maxine McClaskey Foundation
    Offering free, supervised activities and USDA-certified lunches to children ages 6-11 at five Vancouver locations from June through August. In 2018, over 100 children each weekday attended the Summer Playground Program.
  • $15,000 to Teen Late Night Programs from the Parks Foundation and U.S. Bank
    Providing a safe, healthy, and fun environment at the Marshall and Firstenburg community centers every Friday night during the school year for over 6,000 local teens.
  • $13,500 to Everybody Plays! Scholarships from Bauman Chiropractic, Banner Bank and Nautilus Cares
    Creating affordable access to City recreational programming for nearly 900 participants each year. Scholarships may be used for swimming, team sports, youth classes and special programming for individuals with disabilities.
  • $6,000 to free Sunday swim sessions from Bauman Chiropractic
    Enriching the lives of 100 people each week through a free family swim session at Marshall Community Center.
