Have you ever wanted to tell some drivers they’re going too fast in your neighborhood? Radar speed signs are an effective, real-time tool to calm traffic by showing drivers just how fast they really are going compared to the posted speed limit. The city of Vancouver has teamed up with volunteers to help get portable speed signs out into neighborhoods where they can slow speeders, but more volunteers are needed.

If you want to be part of the solution to help education and slow down motorists in your community and can offer a few hours of time each month, please consider applying to volunteer with the SMART (Speed Monitor Awareness Radar Trailer) program. As a city of Vancouver SMART volunteer, you’ll help transport and set up the SMART speed trailer in different neighborhoods on Mondays and Fridays using a city-provided truck. Training is provided.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record, pass a background check, and be able to able to bend, twist, kneel and lift up to 40 pounds.

Applications are being accepted now for community volunteers to support the deployment of this community resource. Volunteers can apply online at www.tinyurl.com/SMARTvolunteer. Call (360) 487-8316 for more details.
