What started as a domestic violence report escalated to the death of a suspect on Sunday
A suspect died following an altercation with Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Sunday night, according to a press release.
Deputies responded to the 8700 block of Sorenson Road at about 8 p.m. following a report that a domestic violence assault had just occurred, according to the sheriff’s office. The suspect resisted when the deputies attempted an arrest.
“The suspect was eventually taken into custody and medics were called to the scene due to the suspect having difficulty breathing,” according to the press release. “The deputies provided medical care until medics arrived however the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
The suspect was not identified by the sheriff’s office.
The deputies were named as Scott Kirgiss, a 10-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, and Forrest Cook, who has been with the sheriff’s office for about 2 ½ years. They were both placed on administrative leave according to the sheriff’s office’s procedures.
The Regional Major Crimes Team led by the Vancouver Police Department is conducting an independent investigation into the suspect’s death.
