PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center is one of only 66 U.S. hospitals to achiever meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care
VANCOUVER — The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP) has recognized PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center as one of only 66 U.S. hospitals to achieve meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care. A total of 680 U.S. and Canadian hospitals were evaluated by ACS NSQIP.
“We’re grateful to be recognized by the American College of Surgeons for our success in providing quality surgical care to our patients,” said Lawrence Neville, MD, chief medical officer at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. “The ACS has a sharp focus on raising the bar for surgical safety, quality, and outcomes — which aligns exactly with our work at PeaceHealth Southwest.”
The ACS NSQIP recognition program recognizes hospitals for achieving outstanding composite quality scores across eight clinical areas:
- mortality
- unplanned intubation
- ventilator > 48 hours
- renal failure
- cardiac incidents (cardiac arrest and myocardial infarction)
- respiratory (pneumonia)
- surgical site infections – superficial and deep incisional and organ-space
- urinary tract infection
As a participant in ACS NSQIP, PeaceHealth Southwest tracks the outcomes of inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures and collects data that directs patient safety and the quality of surgical care improvements.
The 66 hospitals were named to the meritorious outcomes list based on risk-adjusted data from the July 2017 ACS NSQIP Semiannual Report, which presents data from the 2016 calendar year. The only other Pacific Northwest hospital on the ACS NSQIP list is PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center in Springfield, Oregon.
