Live performance will be presented Wed., April 17 at Kiggins Theatre
VANCOUVER — “SciFi, SciFacts on the Radio,” a live performance featuring two WSU Vancouver scientists and a radio drama, will be presented at 7 p.m., Wed., April 17 at the Kiggins Theatre in downtown Vancouver.
“Science fiction is a way of imagining the future,” said John Barber, a faculty member in the Creative Media and Digital Culture program at WSU Vancouver, and producer of the popular Re-Imagined Radio series. “Science fact is a way of understanding the present. We plan to combine the two with this performance, and provide an entertaining and informative program.”
The performance will be presented in two acts, each introduced with a short, science-fiction-themed drama about a space ship traveling from Earth to a distant planet, where the crew members begin to lose their memories, then back again to discover that Earth has been altered by dramatic weather events. Act I will feature John Harkness, a postdoctoral researcher in neuroscience, talking about how memories are formed, stored, altered, updated and forgotten. In Act II, Marc Kramer, associate professor in the School of the Environment, will talk about the causes and consequences of climate change. A Q&A period will follow.
The program is a collaboration between Metropolitan Performing Arts, WSU Vancouver’s neuroscience program, the School of the Environment, and the Creative Media and Digital Culture program.
Tickets are available for $9 in advance at the Kiggins Theatre website, www.kigginstheatre.com and for $10 at the door. The Kiggins Theatre is located at 1011 Main Street, Vancouver, WA 98660.
